DRUMHELLER SCENIC FLIGHTS
Mountain View Helicopters operates a seasonal tour base at the Horseshoe Canyon viewpoint in Drumheller, Alberta. The Horseshoe Canyon viewpoint is 16km west of Drumheller off of Highway 9. We offer spectacular scenic flights of the area in our Robinson R44 II Helicopter. We operate on a first come first serve basis so you do not need a reservation. The Canadian Badlands are home to one of the largest dinosaur fossil discoveries in the world. Dinosaurs found in the Horseshoe Canyon Formation include Albertosaurus, Anchiceratops, Anodontosaurus, Arrhinoceratops, Atrociraptor, Chirostenotes, Daspletosaurus, Edmontonia, Edmontosaurus among others. Additional finds have included mammals, non-dinosaur reptiles, amphibians, fish, marine and terrestrial invertebrates and plant fossils. Horseshoe Canyon itself is located 17 km southwest of Drumheller, AB, on Highway 9. This Canyon gets its name from its horseshoe shape and is approximately 3 km long, extending from Highway 9 to Kneehill Creek area. The Horseshoe Canyon Formation is up to 230m in depth. The Canyon Tour 5- 6 minutes
The Canyon Tour lets us take you to 1000ft over the Horseshoe Canyon Viewpoint and give you a spectacular view of the Canyon like you've never seen before. From this bird's eye view you will see every corner of the canyon and the surrounding area. Our Robinson R44 helicopter gives every passenger a window seat with excellent visibility and spectacular photo opportunities. Our tours require a minimum of 2 passengers, however we can accommodate up to 3 passengers at a time.
The Horseshoe Tour 10 - 12 minutes
The Horseshoe Tour is the premier way to experience the entire Drumheller area. This longer tour will provide all the elements of the Canyon tour and many more. After taking off from the Canyon Viewpoint you will climb 1000 feet up. From this height you will travel the entire 13km of the Horseshoe Canyon. Along the way views of larger Horsethief Canyon, the Red Deer river valley, and the Royal Tyrell Museum will add to your helicopter experience.
