The Alberta Badlands are home to one of the largest dinosaur fossil discoveries in the world. Dinosaurs found in the Horseshoe Canyon Formation include Albertosaurus, Anchiceratops, Anodontosaurus, Arrhinoceratops, Atrociraptor, Chirostenotes, Daspletosaurus, Edmontonia, Edmontosaurus among others. Additional finds have included mammals, non-dinosaur reptiles, amphibians, fish, marine and terrestrial invertebrates and plant fossils. Horseshoe Canyon itself is located 17 km southwest of Drumheller, AB, on Highway 9. This Canyon gets its name from its horseshoe shape and is approximately 3 km long, extending from Highway 9 to Kneehill Creek area. The Horseshoe Canyon Formation is up to 230m in depth.

The Canyon Tour
The Canyon Tour lets us take you 1000 ft over the Horseshoe Canyon Viewpoint and give you a spectacular View of the of the Canyon Like you've never seen before! From this Bird's eye View you will see Horsethief Canyon, the Red Deer River valley and see for yourself why this Marvel of Nature is called "Horseshoe Canyon". The Canyon Tour will take 5 to 6 minutes and requires a minimum of 2 passengers, however we can accommodate up to 3 passengers at a time.

The Horseshoe Tour
Mountain View Helicopters offers scenic tours in our Robinson R44 Raven II Helicopters. The R44 Raven II helicopter is a state-of-the-art piston engine helicopter, which is currently the number one selling helicopter in the world. This 4-seat helicopter is designed so that all passengers have a window seat - a must for sight-seeing. Since one seat is required for the pilot, our aircraft can accommodate a maximum of 3 passengers per flight. We do operate turbine helicopters at certain times throughout the year, so if you require an aircraft that seats 4, call to check for availability.
